In 1988, five childhood friends grow up together in Ssangmun-dong, a close-knit Seoul neighborhood where everyone knows everyone and every family’s business somehow becomes the neighbors’ business too. Sung Deok-sun is the lively middle child of a struggling family, constantly competing for attention with her siblings. Her best friends, Kim Jung-hwan, Sung Sun-woo, Ryu Dong-ryong, and Choi Taek, each have their own personalities, dreams, and family struggles. They may tease, bicker, and drive each other crazy, but when one of them needs help, the whole group shows up. Between school, first loves, family arguments, neighborhood gatherings, and the simple routines of everyday life, the five friends begin to discover that growing up means more than deciding what they want to become. As their friendships change and new feelings emerge, the bonds they formed as children are tested by the uncertainty of adolescence and the passage of time. Set against the nostalgic backdrop of 1980s Seoul, Reply 1988 is a heartfelt story about friendship, first love, family, and the ordinary moments that become the memories we treasure most.
