Notes from the Last Row
Heo Mun-oh is a literature professor and failed novelist whose own writing ambitions have long since faded. Then he discovers an extraordinary talent in Lee Kang, an aloof engineering student who always sits in the last row of his class. Fascinated by the young man’s work, Mun-oh offers to mentor him privately but the stories Lee Kang begins writing hit dangerously close to home. As Lee Kang draws inspiration from the lives of real people around him, Mun-oh becomes increasingly obsessed with reading what comes next. The situation grows even more unsettling when the student’s writing begins touching on Kim Su-hun, Mun-oh’s successful author friend and longtime rival, and Ahn Eun-joo, Su-hun’s wife and Mun-oh’s first love. Notes from the Last Row is a psychological thriller about a teacher and student whose creative partnership slowly blurs the boundaries between fiction and reality, curiosity and obsession, until writing about other people’s lives threatens to change them.
