The Accident

Episode 3. The Accident

1988- Kwon Min-ju is lost and she hears the voice of Nam Si-heon. She sees his face outside and Han Jun-hee is transported to the hospital bed of Kwon Min-ju by the music of Seo Ji-won playing on the cassette. She awakens and mistakes Nam Si-heon as her boyfriend Koo Yeon-jun and cries and embraces him. Jung In-gyu enters the room and Si-heon pushes her away. They call her Kwon Min-ju and she is confused about her identity. She remembers the accident.

She recognizes In-gyu but not Nam Si-heon. She asks them what the date is and she is shocked when they tell her that it’s June 15, 1998, and not 2023 as she knows. She is transported to the past as Min-ju and she remembers the details of her birthday with them but recalls her birthday with Yeon-jun. She tells them about the accident. She asks them to bring her home and she finds that her mother, her brother, and her uncle in the house. She confronts her mother about finding the house upside down on her birthday which her mother explained that Do-hun turned the house upside down looking for money. She thought that Do-hun stole money from the safe and ran away with it. Do-hun tells them to shut up because he was playing his game. And Min-ju kicks his hand. Her mother and brother are surprised by her fit or rage. She then asks Si-heon and In-gyu to being her back to the hospital. 

At the hospital, she recalls that she was hit by a car and the doctor says that her injuries are not severe, but she is confused and needs to stay in the hospital for observation. The boys are told to go home by Min-ju’s uncle, and he tells her that the police would come to talk to her. He mother explains that she was not in an accident but abandoned in a field with a head injury. A passerby was the one who called the paramedics. She insists that her injury was caused by the car accident. Her uncle said that the police said she was hit by a blunt object in the head and had a wound. 

Si-heon and In-gyu go home and Si-heon asks if he was mad at him because he was hugged. In-gyu said that he saw how Si-heon broke her heart and hurt her. Si-heon instead told him that it was In-gyu’s fault for not telling Min-ju he loved her, that’s why she was heartbroken and ran away and met the accident.

At home, Jun-hee is in Min-ju’s body and she confronts her brother who is perplexed by her aggressive behavior. Her mother gives her a glass of water. Her uncle on the other hand tells her not to go around alone because the culprit who hit her was not caught yet. She is told to rest by her mother, and she is reminded that her room is upstairs by her brother. She looks at Min-ju’s diary, and she is tickled by Min-ju’s like for Si-heon. 

She talks to the police investigators, and she tells them about the car accident. They are surprised because she was found in another place. She is told to call them if she remembers anything. 

Ji-heon walks past the music store and recalls Min-ju. Jun-hee finds the cassette player that was gifted by In-gyu on her birthday and recalls how she opened the same cassette player in the bus in New York. Min-ju tells Si-heon that he rejected her and Ji-heon says that it doesn’t mean that they can’t be friends and still hang-out. She tells him that they can’t be friends and that she sets the boundaries. He tells her that it must be because of her accident that she acts different and not in her right mind. He asks her why she kept calling him Koo Yeon-Jun who she met in college. She said that she didn’t feel like Kwon Min-ju but she was Han Jun-hee who worked in Seoul. She told him about how Yeon-jun died in an accident and that she could not accept his death. Ji-heon cannot understand what is going on and tells her that he understands her obsession with him. She tells him to leave her alone and forget about everything she said. She teases him about having feelings for her. He tells her that the fantasy was just because he rejected her. She walks out on him in frustration. She calls him a joke. 

Si-heon notices the change in Min-ju and that she has become outspoken. He is confused that she keeps calling him Yeon-jun.

Min-ju wakes up to the alarm of her brother and tells Do-hun to get up. She stares at her mom and wonders if they’re related. Do-hun is shocked that Min-ju is not serving him and tells him to wash the dishes. Her mother is also surprised at Min-ju’s change in character. 

In-gyu has breakfast with his grandmother who remembers that he lost his hearing aid. He tells her that he is wearing an old one while looking for the lost one. In-gyu is preoccupied and Si-heon catches up with him and tells him that they should go together to see Min-ju while the culprit is still out. They bring her to the place where a car hit her, but she forgot what happened after. Then they bring her to the field where she was found but she is unfamiliar with the place. In-gyu asks if she remembers anyone. She calls Si-heon by the name of Yeon-jun again. 

In-gyu tells Min-ju that he likes her and that he had his eye on her ever since he saw her on the rooftop crying. He could read her lips then, and he knew what she was saying. He wanted to tell her then that he understood how she felt about being left out. And when she got rejected by Si-heon he thought that he had a chance. He tells her that he wasn’t rushing her for an answer.

When things went back to normal, Si-heon and In-gyu hang-out at the shop and played with her uncle’s camera. Her uncle took the photo of the three of them. Ji-heon gets a copy of the photograph and sets it on his shelf. The police visit Min-ju with a photograph of a hearing aid that looked like In-gyu’s. She then remembered how she was pulled away before the car hit her and how someone attacked her and when she ran away was hit in the head. 

Han Jun-hee is transported back to 2023 when she is awakened by the bus driver in the last stop. She walks home as Koo Yeon-jun watches her from afar. She calls the telephone of Yeon-jun and someone answers.
